Vera Ioudina, Ph.D. was chosen to work on an Elementary Statistics redesign project and she published Day by Day Workbook for MATH 2328 course. Vera is a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics. 


Jeff McVey was nominated for a Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching for the second time in the spring of 2013. He was also nominated for the Texas State Alumni Association Teaching Award of Honor in the same semester. Jeff is a senior lecturer in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry specializing in teaching large general Chemistry I and II classes.



Wendi David is continuing research for the second year of a multi-year grant award from the National Institutes of Health, in collaboration with Dr. Rachell Booth at Texas State. Their work centers on a sodium ion protein channel responsible for fine-tuning sodium ion levels in the blood. She was also named the undergraduate academic advisor for the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry and the Pre-Pharmacy Society Advisor in 2012. Wendi is a senior lecturer in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry.


Eleanor Close , Ph.D. directs the new Physics Learning Assistant program, which improves student success by improving student learning of fundamental concepts via instructional materials based on physics education research, and by increasing student interaction, connectedness, and community inside and outside the classroom. Students in the program gave presentations at the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 Texas Section joint meetings of the American Physical Society and the American Association of Physics Teachers; Close presented in invited sessions at the national Physics Education Research Conference in both 2012 and 2013. Close is a senior lecturer in the Department of Physics.


Clois E. (Bert) Powell is the Associate Director of the Center for Nanophase Research and also participates in the Materials Science, Engineering, and Commercialization Program(MSEC) program in the College of Science and Engineering.


Rachel Davenport attended multiple workshops and seminars in 2013 including the two-day Preparing Students for Socially Responsible Global Citizenship workshop and the two-week Technology Integration Workshop. Davenport is a senior lecturer in the Department of Biology.


Maureen Lemke was a part of a team presentation at the 2013 National Conference for the National Science Teachers Association about work done in Cambodia to introduce inquiry learning to University sciences. Lemke is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biology.


Marilyn R. Banta , Ph.D. was asked to serve on the Membership Committee and Task Force for the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions in 2012. In 2013 she gave a presentation at the Southeastern Association of Advisors for the Health Professions Conference in Louisville, KY. The presentation described ongoing efforts at Texas State to prepare advisors, faculty and students for the 2015 release of a new Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). During the 2012-2013 school year she was also a Co-PI on a seed grant from the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology designed to increase interest in STEM disciplines in fifth graders at a local public elementary school. Banta is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biology.
